Situated between Martock and South Petherton, on the edge of the unique Somerset Levels and within easy reach of the beautiful Dorset coastline, our location makes a fantastic base for exploring the scenic West Country.
Less than a ten minute drive from the A303 (the main London to Exeter road) and Cartgate Services, Southfork Caravan Park is nestled between the peaceful and rural villages of Martock and South Petherton in Somerset, on a level site and part sheltered by trees. Our great location means that visitors to our site can easily explore the Blackdown Hills, Mendips, Qantocks, Exmoor, Jurassic Coast in Dorset, Bath, Bristol and Wells.
We have a range of options for your perfect holiday with a selection of electric, non-electric and serviced pitches for touring and camping, and if you are looking for a few more home comforts then we also have a luxury wooden glamping pod as well as some fabulous static caravan holiday homes.
Historic Martock
Right on our doorstep is Parrett Iron Works, a series of industrial buildings on the river, formerly known as Carey’s Mill. The site includes some outstanding examples of late 19th century industrial architecture with a history which dates back to the doomsday book. It has, in the past, produced snuff, sailcloth, rope, steam engines, agricultural machines and mass produced wagons and carts. It is now privately owned but adjacent to the mill is Castle Reclamation, a wonderful treasure trove of architectural antiques, furniture and great vintage finds.
Visitors to Southfork Caravan Park will also have views of Ham Hill, a scenic wildlife haven on the site of an iron age fort which is now a Country Park. You can walk through the quarries where the local Ham Stone comes from or you can simply sit and take in the wonderful panoramic views.
Walking, Cycling & Fishing
The Parrett Trail runs by our park, so this is an ideal place to stay if you enjoy walking – for more information on walking the Parrett Trail and other opportunities for keen walkers in the area, have a look at our walking page.
Cyclists are also very well catered for in the immediate area with a number of long and short routes available and within easy reach of Southfork. The River Parrett is within walking distance of Southfork and fishing licences can be purchased directly from our recption for selected local coarse fisheries. If fishing is not your thing, the River Parrett is also a perfect place to sit and observe our local wildlife.
Delicious Local Food & Drink
The Somerset Levels are well known for delicious locally produced food, beers and ciders and there are a number of great local options for eating out including the Ranch Cafe & Deli, our very own on-site eatery offering tasty breakfasts, lunch time meals, mid-evening roasts and themed weekend evening meals to both locals and visitors to Southfork Caravan Park.
Local food and farmers markets are a regular event in Somerset and Dorset and there is no better way to enjoy a leisurely day out, taking in the atmosphere of our bustling,markets and sampling some local produce.
From the park you can also see Burrow Hill, recognisable by the solitary sycamore tree which sits at the top of the site and home to Burrow Hill Cider, producers of ‘proper’ West Country cider and the world famous Somerset Cider Brandy. We stock both the local Cider and Cider Brandy in our on-site shop.
