For many of us, October Half Term represents the last opportunity of the year for camping. Somerset is a beautiful county to visit all year round, but the Autumn is a particularly lovely time of year here. Nearby Haynes Motor Museum is holding a ‘Haunted Haynes’ week over half term, including a treasure trail and pumpkin carving for kids as well as all the usual visitor attractions. If you have a taste for adventure and like getting out in the fresh air, go along to Ham Hill Country Park to track down a Yeti! Suitable for ages 8 and up, join the Rangers and learn about animal tracks as you walk through the woods looking for the Yeti, booking is required – see the Visit South Somerset website for more information.
The National Trust gardens and Montacute House and Barrington Court are both within easy reach of Southfork. For spooky Halloween trails, half terms crafts, den building, apple celebrations and puppet workshops for the kids, there is plenty to see and do. For more spooky goings-on, the 900-year-old Forde Abbey is offering some spine-tingling half term fun with a haunted trail, including some unexpected visitors. You can also try your hand a pumpkin rolling! It is a great time of year to visit the gardens at the abbey with its arboretum full of glorious autumn colours.
